ORIGINAL: 6:15 p.m.
The Trans-Canada Highway is temporarily closed west of Revelstoke Thursday night as crews work to control the avalanche risk in the area.
A six-kilometre stretch of Highway 1, between Malakwa's 19 Mile Road and Three Valley Siding Road, is expected to be closed until 7 p.m.
Crews are performing avalanche control work in the area. Earlier Thursday, a province-wide avalanche warning was issued, citing very weak layers in the snowpack buried anywhere between 60 and 150 centimetres.
Castanet will update this story when the highway reopens.
