Provincial dental coverage?

The B.C. government is considering basic dental coverage for those who don't have dental plans through work.

The province has started crunching numbers on what such a program would cost, CTV News reports.

Premier John Horgan couldn't confirm if there would be dental funding in the next provincial budget, but said the province is looking into it.

"It's very costly, and it's in the tentative stages, but it's something that's important," Horgan told CTV.

Public coverage is expected to be expensive, but dentists say it would take pressure off hospital Emergency Rooms, where the uninsured often end up when in pain.
