Celebrating $1M win

A Kelowna convenience store that sold a $1-million winning lottery ticket got in the giving spirit on Wednesday.

Nick Pisio bought his winning Lotto 649 on the Nov. 7 draw at the Mac’s store on Springfield Road.

Store manager Gurjeet Patara says Piso bought the ticket from her.

"It was so exciting once I heard he won," she said. "It's amazing that someone who is local won. He is one of our regulars here, so it was nice to see that."

Mac's celebrated by giving away 100 free lottery tickets on Wednesday, along with baked goods and other treats – and business was brisk as customers hoped they'd be the next big winner.

“I had the staff scan the ticket – I couldn’t believe it! Everyone was shocked," Pisio said after his win.

He plans on taking an early retirement and a holiday in Maui.
