Public help clear rock slide

UPDATE: 1 p.m.

Quick work by the public prevented a traffic nightmare on Highway 97 in Peachland after a rock slide.

A Honda Odyssey was struck on its passenger side by falling debris at Highway 97 and Drought Road about 11:30 a.m.

Police say the woman in the vehicle was not injured, and her vehicle sustained only minor damage.

"RCMP would like to extend their appreciation for the members of the public who stopped and worked together to remove small rocks and other fallen debris," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

The public's quick actions allowed traffic to continue to flow until the Department of Highways responded.

"It is believed a dead tree, blown over by strong winds in the area may have caused rocks and other debris to break free and fall onto Highway 97," said O'Donaghey.
