Snow buried 30 Ave in 1971

Many Okanagan residents looked out their windows in excitement to see snow this morning while thousands of others cursed the white stuff for falling from the sky.

If you are someone who hates the snow just be thankful the Okanagan isn't buried in it, like it was 47 years ago almost to this day exactly.

The Greater Vernon Museum & Archives went way back in time and posted a photo to their social media showing Vernon's downtown core on Dec. 13, 1971.

Snow piles several feet high lined the sides of the roads almost completely hiding local businesses.

The picture, taken in the 3100 block of 30 Avenue came after a big snow storm.

Downtown Vernon looks very similar as it does today except with a lot more white stuff on the street and on the mountain in the background.

Some of the businesses shown in the picture include Okanagan Electric, Kalamalka Realty, Openshaws, Okanagan Restaurant, and SAANs.
