Won't face death penalty

A Washington state man accused of murdering a B.C. couple in 1987 won't face the death penalty.

Truck driver William Earl Talbott faces two charges of aggravated first-degree murder in the deaths of Tanya Van Cuylenborg and her boyfriend Jay Cook.

The young Saanich couple's bodies were found in Snohomish County in November 1987.

Talbott was arrested in May after advances in DNA technology led to a break in the 31-year-old cold case.

He is being held on $2-million bail, and his trial is expected to begin in April.
