Fatal hit and run

RCMP are hoping the public can help solve a fatal hit and run west of Terrace.

Police discovered a man's body in the ditch on the north side of Highway 16, roughly four kilometres west of Terrace.

The man’s injuries were consistent with having been struck by a vehicle and police stated that there was supporting evidence at the scene.

The man in his thirties has been identified as a resident of Terrace.

"The investigation thus far revealed that the man was walking east on Highway 16 on the westbound shoulder (facing traffic) and that this collision occurred between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 a.m., Sunday, November 18, 2018," stated Cpl. Michael Halskov.

"Police are pursuing a number of very strong leads and investigative avenues and want to speak with anyone who may have been travelling on Highway 16, west of Terrace, between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 AM, Sunday, November 18, 2018, including anyone with dash camera video. Police also urge the driver responsible for this collision to come forward."

Police are asking anyone who may have seen a large pick-up type vehicle with significant damage to the passenger side, and which may be missing the passenger side mirror, to call Sgt. Shawn McLaughlin with West Pacific Region Traffic Services at 250-638-7438 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), quoting file 2018-11029.
