The provincial government is expected to announce legislation Monday to pave the way for ride-hailing apps in B.C.
Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena is scheduled to address the media, likely to introduce the passenger transportation amendment act, reports CTV Vancouver.
But a group pushing for the legalization of Uber and Lyft-like services isn’t celebrating quite yet.
“I’m cautiously optimistic,” said Ian Tostenson with Ridesharing Now For BC. “The government said ridesharing by September 2019. So that’s the big test: will we be able to use that app in 2019?”
During the provincial election the NDP pledged to bring ride-hailing to B.C. by 2017.
