Missing dog going home

Ken McLennan had feared his beloved dog Penny was lost for good after she ran away when he was hit by a car while walking her on Halloween night, but on Sunday, she was found.

Penny is now waiting at the SPCA for McLennan to pick her up, after being transported there by Carolyn Hawkins, branch manager. Penny was found in the Uplands Court area of town.

McLennan fought tears over the phone while talking to Castanet, from the hospital where he is still being treated for the injuries he sustained after the vehicle incident.

"It's the best news I've heard in a long time," he said. "She has a cut on her back leg apparently, and she smells pretty bad."

Penny is a senior boxer, approximately 12 years old, who was adopted by McLennan from the SPCA two years ago. She had previously been abandoned, which is what brought her to the SPCA's care. Public response to her loss was huge, with flyers popping up all over town letting people know to watch for her.

McLennan will be picking Penny up from the SPCA as soon as he is done at the hospital this afternoon. He is looking forward to holding her tight, when they are reunited.

"If I can stand to let go of her long enough, I'll give her a bath," he said. "She's my partner, I want to thank the people of Penticton who searched for her. They will never know how much it means to me."
