Support youth through 4-H

4-H BC is hosting it's first ever online auction, which supports the positive growth of youth development.

The auction started on Nov. 7, but don't worry the public still has more time to participate until the closing date on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27.

"It's a fundraising initiative for the provincial programming," said Belinda Field, Fund Development Coordinator, 4-H BC.

4-H is a youth development program that's been around for more than 100 years.

"Some of our projects are involving kids in urban communities with things like community gardening, small engines and crafting projects," Field said. "It teaches kids about responsibility and provides them with opportunities for public speaking, as well as national and international travel opportunities."

November is National 4-H Month, which is another reason the club decided to host a fundraiser.

Over the years 4-H has immensely grown and provided many kids, pre-teens, teens and young adults with an abundance of opportunities.

"Currently, in B.C., we have over 2,200 members and we have approximately 600 volunteer leaders. Part of our growth mandate at the moment is to create awareness in more urban communities."

4-H offers youth the opportunity to participate in international exchanges and community development projects, as well as learn about Canada’s Parliamentary system to become responsible and engaged young citizens, according to their website.

Funds raised through the auction will be divided between the 4-H BC Foundation and the 4-H BC Provincial Council to support future 4-H BC programs and the youth that they serve.
