Salmon Arm

OnStar foils bad guys

Modern technology was the undoing of a pair of armed robbery suspects.

Staff Sgt. Scott West said Salmon Arm RCMP were able to locate two suspects in Vernon who are believed to be responsible for an armed robbery at a Salmon Arm bank ATM.

“The male and female are suspected of robbing a couple at knife point, after making an unsuccessful getaway in the victim’s vehicle, foiled by police via the tracking service-equipped vehicle,” said West.

In the afternoon of Nov. 12, the victims reported they were confronted by a male wearing a mask who threatened them with a knife. The male suspect demanded money and the keys to their vehicle which the female victim handed over.

The male suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and the keys to the vehicle. The suspect was then joined by a female who had pink hair and printed pants. The two then left the area in the victim’s SUV and fled to the Vernon area.

“The vehicle was tracked with the assistance of the OnStar services tracking system, which guided the Vernon RCMP to the vehicle's location. The pair were arrested and police were able to recover the vehicle, weapon, disguise, cash and identification belonging to the victim,” said West.

RCMP victim services will be supporting the victim and potential witnesses in this investigation.
The two suspects, a 24-year-old male and 32-year-old female, who are of no fixed address, are in custody in Salmon Arm awaiting a court appearance to face armed robbery, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and theft of a motor vehicle charges.
