Major shakeup in Metro Van

Voters in Metro Vancouver will elect an unprecedented number of new mayors tonight.

Of 21 mayors in the Lower Mainland, only eight are running for re-election, meaning at least 13 municipalities will have new leaders.

Gregor Robertson bowed out after a decade at the helm in Vancouver, leaving a heated race to replace him, with 21 candidates.

According to the City of Vancouver, more than 48,000 voted in advance polls, a 27 per cent increase from the 2014 election.

Other Metro communities that will definitely have new mayor's come tomorrow are: Surrey, Delta, Port Coquitlam, Langley, Maple Ridge, White Rock, Belcarra, Bowen Island, Lions Bay, West Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and District of North Vancouver.

Across the region, there are 537 mayoral and council candidates, including a whopping 158 names on the ballot in Vancouver.
