Boat just misses baby

A Vancouver Island toddler is lucky to be alive after a wayward boat crashed into the girl's bedroom.

The incident happened in Courtenay after a vehicle left the road and crashed into a boat that was parked in the driveway, pushing the boat and trailer through the wall and into the child's bedroom.

Courtney Houston tells CTV her two year old was in bed asleep when she was woken by the sound of screeching tires just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"I got up and looked out my window to see a boat come crashing through my window," Houston said.

Luckily, the toddler was uninjured in the crash, but the house suffered damage after a window was knocked out and the frame was damaged.

Houston says she believes the car hit a pole, which caused a chain reaction.

"I kind of dove over my child to make sure no glass got on to her, and as soon as all the crashing of glass stopped, I got out and came outside to find a car had come around the corner too fast," she said.

The driver remained on scene until RCMP arrived.
