The 'Road to the Juniors'

There is no one thing more beloved in Canada than hockey.

That is our thing. That is what we do.

From a young age kids from coast to coast to coast dream of wearing the maple leaf and taking to the ice for team Canada.

And perhaps there is no hockey tournament more cherished than the IIHF World Junior Championship.

Two Canadian cities will be co-hosting the WJC this winter — Vancouver and Victoria — and the road to the BC Hockey Road to World Junior Championship runs through Vernon.

To help generate excitement for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver and Victoria, BC Hockey is visiting elementary schools to deliver fun, educational presentations of basic hockey skills utilizing floorball equipment.

To help with the presentation, local Junior and Midget-aged minor hockey players will help demonstrate and teach the kids stickhandling, passing and shooting.

At the end of the presentation, the floorball equipment will be donated to the school so the kids can continue to improve their hockey skills and remain active.

On Oct. 22 “Road to the World Juniors” tour stops at Okanagan Landing (9:00 a.m.) in Vernon and Highland Park in Armstrong (1:00 p.m.)

Youth in 39 BC communities will get to learn about and try hockey over the next eight (8) weeks when BC Hockey’s “Road to the World Juniors” tour rolls into communities across BC.

"Our organization is committed to providing an opportunity for all students to enhance their life learning outcomes through hockey experiences," said BC Hockey CEO Barry Petrachenko.

Other dates and locations in the Southern Interior include:

  • October 23, Begbie View in Revelstoke
  • October 24, Bastion in Salmon Arm
  • October 25, AE Perry in Kamloops
  • October 26, Lower Nicola in Merritt

"The Road to the World Juniors will inspire British Columbians and allow us an opportunity to welcome new participants to hockey, while leaving a lasting impact within the host communities," said Petrachenko.

The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship rund from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Vancouver and Victoria.
