Shelter staying longer

As the winter months approach, a homeless shelter has received another extension on its lease.

Inn from the Cold’s lease ran out at the end of September, and it has been desperately searching for a new place to call home.

The shelter, which gives 45 clients a place to sleep, will now have until Dec. 31 to find a new location. Despite a large black fence surrounding the building, the shelter will continue to operate.

Executive director Jan Schulz says up to this point, they've had no luck finding a new home.

“Despite ongoing searches for a new location, we still have nothing secured,” she says.

Schulz added every time they find a location, neighbours don’t want them to move in.

“As soon as we get as far as signing a lease, people don't want the homeless as a neighbour, unfortunately, despite the fact that we have good neighbour protocols and we're very careful to make sure that we are good neighbours,” she said in September.

Anyone who is interested in renting their space can contact Schulz at [email protected].
