Theft cripples business

Alanna Kelly

Three thieves made off with a food truck’s generator and they had to go through quite the effort to steal it.

Poppadoms owner Serge Dosanj said his renovated bus which operates as a food truck in Kelowna was parked in his driveway off Tamarack Drive when the theft occurred.

Surveillance footage shows three men walking towards his home just before 1 a.m. on Sunday. A few minutes later they can be seen wheeling the generator down the street away from his home.

“I am surprised and shocked that this would happen in Kelowna and in Canada,” said Dosanj.

The 6,000 generator runs all of the power to the truck and without it, the business can’t operate.

“At the moment we can’t do anything. All of our income has stopped now because we have no power,” he said.

His Honda EU7000I generator was bolted down, chained up and locked inside a box attached to his truck. Dosanji said there were four locks on the box.

“It would take a lot of effort to remove it from there.”

Dosanj said he just wants the generator back and thankfully, he has been loaned a spare one so he can attend two events this weekend.

“When we moved here 11 years ago… it was fantastic you could leave a kids bike outside and nothing would get taken. Sadly, now when it is locked up it still goes.”

RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said police are investigating the overnight theft and ask anyone with information to come forward.
