Murder victim identified

UPDATE: 5:50 p.m.

The 30-year-old man who was shot dead in Surrey Thursday afternoon has been identified by police. 

Surrey's Sumeet Randhawa was found injured by police just before 2 p.m. on the 6700-block of 130 Street after police had responded to reports of a shooting. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“This is believed to be a targeted incident related to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict and anyone with information is asked to contact IHIT,” said Lara Jansen of the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.

Randhawa was known to police. 

IHIT has asked anyone with information about the shooting to call 1-877-551-4448 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.


UPDATE: 3:45 p.m.

RCMP say the victim has died in a Surrey shooting.

Police were called to the 6700 block of 130th Street just before 2 p.m., where an adult victim was located suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to revive the individual, the victim did not survive. 

Police say the shooting does not appear to be a random act. 

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in.

Police say one person was injured in a shooting incident in Surrey Thursday afternoon.

RCMP have cordoned off the scene on 130th Street, between 64th and 68th avenues and are asking the public to stay away while they investigate.

No details have been provided on the incident, what prompted it, or the severity of the victim's injuries.
