Gibbons farewell begins

The Toronto Blue Jays are playing their final home game of the season today and it has been widely speculated that this will be manager John Gibbons final season with the club he has managed since 2013.

The Jays hit the road to close out the season in Florida versus the Rays this weekend and sources close to the team indicate they will announce the split with Gibbons before today's game, at least in part to give fans a chance to say goodbye to the popular manager.

Gibbons has one year left on his contract but he expressed a lack of desire to manage the team as they go into full rebuild mode.

Gibbons took over as the Blue Jays' bench boss in 2013 for the second time and has posted a 486-482 record, highlighted by back-to-back trips to the ALCS in 2015 and 2016.

The team has missed the playoffs the last two seasons.
