Thieves snatch kayaks

Kamloops police have received many calls of stolen generators and kayaks in the past few months.

RCMP are reminding the public that they need to take proper precautions to protect their belongings.

"Things that can be carried away can easily be stolen by thieves looking to make a quick profit and it is not just construction sites that have to be concerned about theft, it could be your backyard or garage," said the Kamloops RCMP.

What can you do to protect your belongings?

  • Lock your tools, generators, kayaks and bikes up. If you can’t move all of the items into a garage or shed and lock the door, then use a lock and chain on each item.
  • Take pictures and record serial numbers of all of your tools and equipment and outdoor sports equipment.  If they are stolen, you have proof for the insurance company and for the police.  Identifier labels are also helpful.
  • Extra lighting and motion sensor lights can deter thieves at night from your work site or residential yard.

If you see someone suspicious in your neighbourhood or at your neighbour’s house please call the police.
