Skateboarders have a simple message for people who want them off Kelowna streets.
Build another skateboard park.
Rob Lysak has spearheaded a drive to have another park built in the city.
"There are two skateboard parks in the City of Kelowna. The problem is the City Park Skate Park is outdated and not big enough, and Ben Lee Skate Park in Rutland is unsafe because of overcrowding," says Lysak.
He says skateboarding is a favourite activity among young people, and with the growth of the city, the need is only going to get bigger.
Lysak says he understands skateboarding on public or private property is illegal and can cause damage, but says boarders have to go somewhere.
The city does have plans to build a skateboard park as part of the Mission Recreation Complex, however a time frame has not been announced.
Lysak says a complete re-design of the City Park facility would be ideal.
"It's more than 10 years old and needs to be re-built."
He says boarders in Kelowna would be more than willing to help with designs, construction, and fundraising to help with costs.
Lysak says he has nearly 1,000 names on a petition he has available on-line.
