New park, old problem

A Buckland Avenue resident is concerned about what he believes is apathy on the part of the city concerning discarded needles at a city park.

Blaine says he noticed the needle Wednesday morning near where the city is constructing a park on the south side of the Central Green property.

He says he called the phone number the city has been promoting, but didn't get the feeling they were anxious to assist.

"I called fire department, fire department puts me through to parks services. Parks services says thanks, and by the way, you can pick this up yourself," he said.

"We suggest you can put it in a hard plastic bottle, and drop it off to either at the hospital or a fire hall. Or, you can leave it and we'll address it. That was 25 hours ago. But, they still haven't addressed it."

Blaine says he got the impression they didn't understand why he didn't pick up the needle himself.
