Keeping it clean

Wanted: anyone with a canoe, kayak, SUP or any other human-powered watercraft who wants to help the environment.

The Middle Shuswap River will be the focus of a volunteer clean up Saturday, Sept. 29 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Participants will meet at the Mabel Lake Community Hall with gloves, snacks, water, lunch and appropriate clothing.

This year’s clean-up begins at the hall and heads downstream toward Mabel Lake.

Volunteers will clean up on foot in the area below Wilsey Dam, while those who wish to paddle will head downstream.

Anyone with a human-powered watercraft is welcome to join in, prior river paddling experience is recommended and safety information will be provided.

Canoes and safety equipment will be available for rent for those who reserve in advance.

The event ends about 4 p.m., when chili and hot drinks will be provided by the Mabel Lake Community Club.

Registration is required. For more information, see the Elements Adventures website, or call/text 250-308-8924.
