$415,115 in tax exemptions

Penticton city council has approved $415,115 in permissive tax exemptions for 2019.

The exemptions are for 98 qualifying candidates as assessed by council. In accordance with the Community Charter, municipal councils may exempt land or improvement projects from taxation, on or before Oct. 31 each year.

The exemptions are only provided to organizations who, by not receiving it, could see their services to the community severely impaired.

Typical exemptions include places of worship, private schools and hospitals.

Exemptions for 2019 are now closed.

"Organizations wishing to receive an exemption for 2020 must share financial information and provide proof they are in good standing with the Society Act,” said chief financial officer Jim Bauer.
