More pets at the vet

If you are feeling the effects of all the smoke on your health chances are your pets are too.

The Okanagan Valley remains socked in with smoke causing many people to suffer from allergies, even the animals.

A local veterinarian says he has seen an increased number of pets being brought in for symptoms they are encountering due to the smoke.

"They are coughing," says Dr. Moshe Oz of Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital. "The elderly ones, the ones that have some heart problems it actually affects them more."

Pets that already have respiratory issues will feel the impacts from the smoke more severly, Dr. Oz says, they should only go outside if it's absolutely necessary.

"I wouldn't go hiking and camping or do too much outside with the dogs," he said. "Keep it to the basics that they need."

If your pet is experiencing new or worsening conditions it's a good idea to bring it to your local veterinarian.
