Starting Monday the air quality rating across the Okanagan is supposed to improve to a 'moderate risk.'

As of Sunday afternoon, the air quality rating across the Valley is a 10+ or a 'very high risk.'

"The air quality in the Okanagan is very poor," said Jonathan Bau, meteorologist. "Smoke is blanketing about half the province from Prince George and Smithers all the way down to Penticton."

Come Monday things are looking better, as far as smoke significantly impacting the air quality.

"We're expecting a shift in the upper atmospheric pattern  that will help ventilate some of the smoke out, basically push it from the Okanagan Valley to the South Coast."

Some smoke will still be sticking around, Bau said, but the public can definitely expect it to improve.

Everyone should avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Children and the elderly should especially avoid outdoor activities.

Smoke still covers the Okanagan causing extremely poor air quality.

Air quality is at a 10+ meaning 'very high risk' throughout the Valley, but as of Monday some of the smoke is expected to dissipate.

Air quality by tomorrow is forecasted at a six which means 'moderate risk.'

Everyone should avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Children and the elderly should especially avoid outdoor activities.

"Reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors, especially if you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation," according to Environment Canada.
