Home-saving gear up close

The Penticton Fire Department is encouraging the public to have a look at its new apparatus used to protect properties from fire.

The department will be displaying its new Structural Protection Unit and utility terrain vehicle on Tuesday evening at Rotary Park, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"Prepare to discover the secrets of this portable unit that has the ability to protect up to 30 structures... Come and see what could protect your home during a wildland urban interface fire," the department said in a news release.

The SPU has several sprinkler heads, four pumps and a 2,500-gallon water bladder, and the department advises caution that "you may get wet!"

People of all ages are welcome to attend and light refreshments will be provided, the department added.
