Penticton Fire dousing a suspicious grass fire along the Channel on Sunday. Two more were lit Thursday night.

The Penticton Fire Department was called to a pair of strange grass fires along the Channel last night, in the same area an arsonist lit four at on Sunday evening.

Deputy chief Dennis Smith says crews were called to the first fire on the west side of the Channel near Doc’s Golf Centre around 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

“Someone had used their own fire extinguisher to hold the fire, and we went and put the rest of it out,” he said.

Crews were also called to a second, similar, small fire in the grass along the Channel walkway south of Doc’s at 11:45 p.m. Smith said the cause of both fires is unknown.

The RCMP have not announced charges against the man arrested after four fires were started on Sunday night in the same area, so it's believed he is no longer in custody.
