At least they're honest

Panhandlers in the streets of Kelowna have become an unfortunate regular sight.

But a couple snapped outside Superstore this week have perhaps brought a new level of honesty to the practice.

It's no secret that addiction and mental health issues are rampant among the street-entrenched population. But, this man and woman, seen sitting on the curb outside the store with a shopping cart full of belongings behind them, are up front that they're looking for money to kick hard drugs.

Their cardboard sign reads: Need methadone – $11.

Methadone is an opioid that's prescribed to wean users off harder street drugs like heroin that may be tainted with deadly fentanyl.

One can only assume the couple was waiting to gather enough money to head to the clinic.

There's no word on whether they got the $11 they were looking for.
