Smoke relief for Van Island

Some portions of the province are getting relief from the smoke which has filled the skies the last several days.

The Smoky Skies bulletin issued for the entire province yesterday was amended Thursday afternoon.

The bulletin no longer applies to Vancouver Island and Central Coast regions.

It remains in effect for the rest of the province.

The bulletin indicates smoke from the hundreds of wildfires burning in the province will continue to linger over the balance of the province for at least the next 24 to 48 hours.

People with pre-existing health conditions, the elderly, infants, children and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure.

The current Air Quality Health Index in the Okanagan is 8, or high. It's expected to remain high through at least tomorrow.
