Child dies in boat incident

A child is dead after a tragic boating incident on Kalamalka Lake near Vernon on Monday.

At about 6 p.m. the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to an incident on the water.

A family from North Vancouver were out boating on the lake. When they were on their way to the shore the driver turned the boat and a 6-year-old fell over board. The child was then struck by the boat.

The 6-year-old was quickly rushed to the pier on Kal Lake to receive treatment from paramedics and the ambulance but sadly the child died of injuries.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are assisting the BC Coroner Service and the family is receiving support from Vernon North Okanagan Victim Services.
