Falcons fly to final

The Kelowna Falcons were crowned North Division champions of the West Coast League Sunday after a wild 7-6 victory over the Bellingham Bells with one final series victory in sight.

"I think more than anything else it was fun to watch our guys celebrate. It was a pretty crazy game. We came out really hot, quieted their crowd. I think for us to come out and make a statement like that early was important, but we held on," said head coach Bryan Donohue.

The Falcons will be matched up against Corvallis Knights in the final, a team that won all six meetings between the two clubs during the summer.

Still, Donohue is confident.

"If they were to pick an opponent to beat to win the championship I think they would just decide to beat Corvallis. We like to come in and embrace a challenge. We have been a good road team all year and I think that we came into this playoff run really feeling like we had nothing to lose."

"I think the guys are excited to surprise some people or to get into the playoffs the way we did and then just go ahead and win the whole thing anyways," Donohue added.

As for who takes the mound the coaching staff says that will be a near game time decision.

"We are trying to piece together the whole series. We will probably have that up on the website soon, but with three games left we are just trying to strategize and make sure that we get things off to a good start," Donohue said.

The Falcons will play their final home game of the season at Elk Stadium Tuesday night. First pitch of the opening game of the West Coast League Championship goes at 6:35 p.m.

Tickets are available online or at the door ahead of the opening pitch of the game.

The best of three series then shifts to Corvallis for game two Wednesday, and if necessary, a championship-clinching third game Thursday.
