Canada is golden again after its 22nd U18 victory at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, Saturday.
Kelowna Rockets defenceman Kaedan Korczak was among the Team Canada gold medal winners who beat Sweden 6-2 in the final game.
"It’s amazing. It's truly an honour to win gold with these guys. We’ve worked so hard for a couple weeks to get to this point," said Korczak. "Words can’t describe how I feel right now."
Canada went a perfect 5-0 through the tourney, starting with a 10-0 drubbing of Switzerland, 4-2 win over Slovakia, and 4-3 victory against Sweden to finish atop their group in the round-robin.
Canada then edged the United States 6-5 in overtime in Friday's semifinal, to advance to the gold medal final.
After falling behind 2-0 early on Saturday, Canada evened the score in the first period before taking a 4-2 lead in the second. The gold medal was secured with two more goals in the third.
The 2017-18 Rockets rookie of the year finished the tournament with three assists in five games and eight penalty minutes. Korczak was part of the team's top pair, playing solid defence.
He'll be back in a Rockets uniform for his second WHL season, starting Aug. 31, when Kelowna hosts the Victoria Royals in pre-season action.
