Search for teacher, back on

The search for Vernon Secondary School math teacher John Keeley will continue today.

Keeley, 58, was last seen at his home the afternoon of July 18 preparing for a kayaking trip to Mabel Lake and was reported missing when he didn't arrive home for dinner.

The search was suspended two days later on July 20 after an extensive search of the lakeshore was conducted. Search crews did locate his vehicle on Mabel Lake forest service road and his abandoned kayak.

The RCMP dive team is expected to be on scene searching the lake today. If the well-known local math teacher is not found by the end of the day, then the RCMP helicopter and search and rescue are expected to pick up the search along the beaches and in the water on Wednesday.

The family of Keeley are asking for privacy at this time while the search continues.
