Aerial view of wildfires

Video footage captured from a helicopter above the Mount Eneas and Goode's Creek wildfires on Thursday show just how destructive these fires have been, burning hundreds of hectares of forest.

The Mount Eneas fire, currently burning an area of 1,374 hectares, was one of 22 wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre that was sparked by lightning Tuesday.

It quickly grew, forcing the evacuation of more than 100 homes and closing Highway 97 periodically.

The footage from above shows candling trees, helicopters bucketing the blaze and traffic backed up along Highway 97, as the fire burns directly beside the road.

The Goode's Creek fire, burning a 400-hectare area in Okanagan Mountain Park, was also started by lightning Tuesday. While it had initially put several homes at the south end of Kelowna's Lakeshore Road on evacuation alert, those alerts have since been rescinded.
