Four wildfires under control

Four wildfires sparked near Naramata during Tuesday night's thunderstorm are said to be relatively small and under control.

Naramata fire chief Tony Trovao said three of the fires are inaccessible for local fire crews and said the BC Wildfire Service is in the process of prioritizing its response. He noted most BCWS resources in the area are working on the Mount Conkle wildfire near Summerland.

The most noticeable plume of smoke near Naramata on Tuesday was from a fire sparked above the KVR trail, near Robinson Creek. Other fires sparked near the community were east of Chute Lake and north of the last property on North Naramata Road.

Trovao said those fires are "little smokers," and all likely less than a hectare in size.

The fourth fire, in the 6000 block of North Naramata Road, was stopped by the local fire department before it reached a nearby home. Trovao said crews stayed at the scene of the two- to three-hectare fire overnight, putting out hotspots before leaving at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The BCWS has not yet provided size estimates for the fires it's responding to in the area.
