With much of the province in a heat wave this week, the Coastal Fire Centre is implementing a fire ban starting at noon Wednesday.

The campfire ban will apply to all of the Coastal Fire Centre area, which includes Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the "fog zone" which runs around the Port Renfrew area along the island's western coast.

Briquette, gas or propane cook stoves are still permitted.
