A fire which sparked Sunday evening is spreading smoke around the Lake Country area and a witness says flames are near to houses.

Castanet reader Geoff Scheirbeck is camping at the Kekuli Bay campground and saw a plume of smoke rising from the Oyama area. He got out his binoculars to look closer, and saw flames.

He said the flames appeared to be near structures which looked like homes.

Castanet has reached out to the Lake Country Fire Department, and will have more.
