New redeye flight to Toronto

Kelowna International Airport is expanding its reach east with the addition of second redeye flight to Toronto, beginning Saturday evening.

WestJet launched YLW's first redeye flight to Toronto last summer that's proven to be popular, prompting Air Canada to follow suit this summer.

With the addition of the new flight, YLW now offers four flights to Toronto every day. In 2015, the airport had just one.

“By getting to the hub in the morning, it connects to over 400 Air Canada flights internationally and that is significant both for leisure and for business travel,” said Phillip Elchitz, senior manager of airport operations at YLW.

“It allows the business traveller to get to Toronto, do business in Toronto during the day, and fly home in the evening. It also allows the leisure traveller to connect to international destinations and get there within a 24-hour period.”

Additionally, Elchitz says Toronto is looking to become a world megahub in the coming years, so increasing service to and from the major city will help grow Kelowna's tourism.

The first Air Canada redeye flight departs YLW at 10:55 p.m. and lands in Toronto at 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
