Trees topple onto homes

Winds brought down several large trees on two Vernon homes Friday afternoon.

Jonathan Specken, who lives on Lakeshore Road near Okanagan Landing Road, said the trees began falling in the afternoon, hitting his and his neighbour's home.

Pictures show the trees' roots were ripped out from the ground.

The trees are still lying on top of the homes, so they haven't been able to fully assess the damage they caused.

While he's never had trees fall on his property before, Specken says he suspects last year's flooding may have weakened them.

“All that water that came in may have just made the trees loose,” he said, adding that Friday's wind was the first time they had seen significant winds in the area since last spring.

“It was a quite a mess last year.”
