Kate Spade's father passes

Kate Spade's relatives have been plunged into mourning once more following the death of her father, two weeks after the tragic designer committed suicide.

Frank Brosnahan died on Wednesday, on the eve of Kate's funeral.

"We are deeply saddened to announced that Katy's father, Earl F. Brosnahan, Jr. (Frank), passed away last night at age 89," reads the Brosnahan family statement, issued to Us Weekly on Thursday.

"He had been failing in health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter. He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing."

Kate's funeral went ahead as planned on Thursday afternoon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, where her grandparents were married. Mourners included her husband Andy Spade and his brother, comedian David Spade, who were spotted arriving at the venue together.

The Brosnahan patriarch, who lost his wife Sandy Palmer in 1992, recently spoke out about Spade's mental health issues, expressing his hope that her death would inspire other troubled souls to seek help before it's too late.

"One thing we feel is that any talk... (addressing support systems for mental health sufferers following her death) that helps somebody else, Katy would have liked that," Brosnahan told The Kansas City Star. "She was always giving and charitable. If that helped anybody avoid anything - fine, she'd be delighted."

Brosnahan is survived by his five remaining children, including son Earl II, the father of actress Rachel Brosnahan.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star has yet to address her granddad's passing, but after Kate's death, she uploaded a poignant video of her aunt, the former Katherine Noel Brosnahan, in which she could be seen laughing and dancing with husband Andy Spade to a mariachi band at a holiday gathering.

"Knowing Katy, this is how she would want to be remembered," the 27-year-old wrote in the accompanying Instagram caption. "She had a light that words can't capture but touched everyone she came into contact with.

"She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known," Rachel added. "She was effervescent. Hug your loved ones extra tight today."
