Cyclist crashes on Hwy 97

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth with the Penticton RCMP says contrary to initial reports, the cyclist was not struck by a vehicle and simply crashed.

“Now the information is that the cyclist was not struck but rather lost control and a vehicle was not involved,” he said. “He went off road at a high rate of speed, at hospital now being examined.”

ORIGINAL 2:15 p.m.

A cyclist was involved in a collision on Highway 97 just south of Penticton, early Wednesday afternoon.

First responders were called to an area about two kilometres south of the Riva Ridge Mobile Home Park at about 1:30 p.m.

The incident slowed traffic in both directions for a short time.

A bicycle was seen in a ditch off the highway, heading northbound.

Details on the nature of the collision are not yet known. It's unclear if there were any injuries.
