T-C open after fatal crash

UPDATE: 10:55 p.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway has re-opened between Hope and Chilliwack, according to DriveBC, following a 12-hour closure due to a fatal crash on Saturday morning.

The passenger in a vehicle heading westbound was killed when an eastbound vehicle crossed over the centre line, police said. The incident happened east of Bridal Falls just after 10:45 a.m.

Both drivers involved were airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster after the collision.

UPDATE: 3:00 p.m.

A multi-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway between Hope and Chilliwack has claimed the life of one person involved.

Lower Mainland District RCMP say one person has died from the crash that occurred just after 10:45 a.m. Two people were air lifted to hospital in critical condition.

The section of the highway remains closed in both directions. DriveBC expects it will reopen between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., and said another update will be provided at 3:30 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

The Trans-Canada Highway will be closed in both directions for at least several more hours between Hope and Chilliwack, due to a crash that has critically injured two people.

The accident occurred east of Bridal Falls just after 10:45 a.m., according to B.C. Emergency Health Services. Several ambulances were called to the scene where two people were air lifted to hospital in critical condition. 

DriveBC currently expects the highway to reopen between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. 

Motorists are advised to use Highway 9 to Highway 7 as a detour, as well as Flood Hope Road.

Details on the nature of the crash have not been provided.
