Driest May in Metro Van

Metro Vancouver is on its way to the driest May ever in the region.

A normal May sees about 65 millimetres of rain. But, so far, less than two have been recorded at Vancouver International Airport.

"We've been under a very dominant ridge of high pressure," Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven told CTV.

Continued dry weather is forecast the next few days, but a low pressure trough could bring some instability next week.

As grass begins to yellow, Richmond Fire Rescue's Jack Beetstra is urging caution.

"Just last week alone, we've had six fires attributed to smokers' material," Beetstra said.

Fire ratings across B.C. are already moderate to high.
