Motorbike enforcement now

With motorcycle season here, the Penticton RCMP is shifting into enforcement mode.

South Okanagan Traffic Services organized a free motorcycle skills training session last weekend attended by about 40 people.

“In 2014 we started to see a real peak in fatalities and injury motorcycle crashes, and that’s when the South Okanagan Highway Patrol started to concentrate on it,” said Reserve Const. David Cramm.

He said many serious motorcycle crashes involve “older guys on big bikes” that are not travelling very fast. Between 30-40 per cent are due to motorcyclists going wide on highway curves.

Sunday’s skills course focused on teaching skills to avoid those and other crashes, but officers will now be out on area highways watching motorcyclists speed, safety and will be writing tickets to violators.
