Rescued eagle on mend

An injured eagle is on the mend after being rescued by RCMP in Bella Coola.

Const. Casey Charles and Const. Marina Coan, with help from a member of the public, rescued the juvenile eagle, which was spotted with a broken wing on the banks of the Tatsquan River on Sunday.

The officers called the BC Conservation Service for advice and were able to capture the raptor after wading through the water, using leather gloves, a fishing net and a dog kennel.

With the eagle wrapped up in a leather jacket, it was transferred the dog kennel.

It spent the night at the detachment, where it was given a meal of fresh fish before being flown to Delta, where it is now in the care of the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society.
