Booms ready, if needed

The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre says there is a contingency plan in place for log booms to be installed lakeside if flooding threats loom.

"The log booms can dissipate wave action and help prevent erosion and protect infrastructure, but at the moment none are being deployed," said Adrian Nieoczym," public information officer with the EOC.

Engineers are currently monitoring the lake levels, and right now feel there is no threat to flooding and therefore no need for increased protection.

"If it gets to a point where a log boom is deemed a useful measure, they will be put it in place," Nieoczym said.

As far as where the booms might be installed, "engineers have mapped out their lists of where they are looking to place the log booms and will continue to monitor the situation."

Currently, the lake level is at 342.65 metres, just over full pool, but below flood stage.
