Toddler drowns in pool

UPDATE 9:00 a.m.

A little girl, believed to be just under two years of age has died after she was found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool in Mission B.C.

The toddler allegedly wandered away from Melissa's Bright Beginnings Childcare Centre on Wednesday which sparked a large police search in the neighbourhood.

The girl was eventually found in a nearby pool and airlifted to hospital, but couldn't be saved.

RCMP are now investigating a tragic incident in Mission B.C.

A two-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a backyard pool, located right next door to her daycare.

The pool where the girl was found is located beside Melissa’s Bright Beginnings Childcare Center. The girl was reported missing which sparked a search which led police to the backyard pool.

A post on social media indicates a massive outpouring of grief and condolences for the parents and family of the little girl and indicates the girl drowned. However RCMP have not released a statement on the girls condition as of Thursday morning.

Insp. Ben Rodrigue said the RCMP’s first priority is to assist those involved.

“As you can imagine, this is really traumatic for everybody,” he told CTV News Vancouver on Wednesday. “Family members, as well as the daycare employees, our main focus right now is to provide them with support.”
