Lots of snow in the hills still

Snowpack on Apex Mountain has significantly reduced over the past two weeks but still has a lot of melt left to go, as shown in photos taken via drone Tuesday.

"We're seeing lots of brown patches out there now, but there's still a lot of snow in the alpine," said Apex Mountain Resort general manager James Shalman. "Obviously shaded areas hold snow a lot longer."

Shalman said he estimates the snowpack at 150 centimetres in the alpine, and anywhere from zero in the village to 50-60 centimetres elsewhere, depending on the location.

"There's a big chunk of the mountain that's still completely covered with snow from top to bottom," Shalman said.

They have also been seeing a few localized mini-landslides, though Shalman said that's to be expected.

"We always get a little bit of sloughing this time of year but nothing out of the ordinary, there's always a little here and there," Shalman said.
