Seeking a second term?

Kelowna's mayor is expected to announce he will be seeking a second term in council's big chair.

Colin Basran has called a news conference for Thursday morning on the rooftop of the city's Innovation Centre.

In a news release Wednesday, Basran will be making what is called a "personal announcement regarding his political future."

Basran served one term on city council before winning the mayor's chair vacated by Walter Gray four years ago.

It was also on a rooftop four years ago then-councillor Basran declared his intention to run for mayor a first time.

While Basran is set to unveil his political future, the mayor of the Central Okanagan's second largest community is still staying mum.

West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater recently told Castanet he's holding firm on his intention to wait until the summer to decide whether he will seek a fourth term. Findlater has been mayor since 2008.

Former councillor Gord Milsom has already declared his intention to seek the mayor's chair in West Kelowna.

As for council seats, Luke Stack, Charlie Hodge and Ryan Donn have all indicated they intend to seek re-election in Kelowna. The other five have not yet made a final decision.

In West Kelowna, Rick de Jong, Rusty Ensign, Rosalind Neis and Bryden Winsby have all stated they intend to run again. Carol Zanon and Duane Ophus are still weighing their options.

Voters will go to the polls Saturday, Oct. 20.
