Gunfire at problem home

UPDATE 9:55 a.m.

Police are investigating a shooting in Penticton Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the home on Government Street around 11 p.m. for a report of shots fired within a home.

“The residence is well known to police as a problem property. Upon arriving, officers located a 30-year-old man, who was suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound,” said Cst. James Grandy in a news release. “The man was taken immediately to hospital.”

A nearby resident called the tenants of the home "trouble," noting she was unsurprised by the commotion. She heard an argument begin sometime shortly before 11 p.m.

"It started outside then proceeded inside, I heard breaking glass and like they were hitting the wall with something," she said, adding that she then heard several gunshots.

She watched an RCMP officer enter the home around 11 p.m. with an assault rifle. Later, she saw one man taken away in an ambulance and what she said was "several of the girls" taken into custody.

She also said she had never seen guns around the place before, but was not surprised.

RCMP secured the home and arrested several individuals who were inside the home at the time.

"There is no indication the public is at risk, and investigators are actively working to determine what occurred," added Grandy.
